Ol Doinyo Lengai is a bourry box wood fired kiln. The bourry box allows for a short firing time and a clean burn with only a small amount of ash. We compliment this look by adding Soda ash to achive a nice shiny translucent effect.

The first firings were followed by major rebuilds of the chimney for more draught. The next firings required minor adjustments to the bag wall height and our stoking techniques. After a number of firings we have achived a laid back woodfire! As we spend more and more time with this very new, very complex partner in our process, the rewards are becoming evident. This kiln fires 21 cubic feet of ware and can be fired easily in 18 hours by two people.
